In my research of fakes and surrogates, I came across this fine story of one of the many copies of the Mona Lisa. The piece once owned by Joshua Reynolds & later Sir Abraham Hume, was championed as the original Mona Lisa when in the hands of Lord Brownlow (depicted here).
